Tyler Menzer, Assistant Professor of Accounting

My name is Tyler Menzer and I am an Assistant Professor of Accounting at Texas Christian University.

My research focuses on tax and tax policy covering both individual and corporate tax, as well as emerging topics such as virtual currency, i.e. cryptocurrency. The research specifically examines the effects of both the international provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and parts of the OECD base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS) project. I believe that research should not only be of interest to academics, but also that research can inform policy makers and regulators. I also have work looking at emerging issues in accounting and finance relating to cryptocurrency and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and have had the opportunity to present my work to regulators and policymakers such as the U.S. Treasury Department and the Office of Financial Research. In future research, I plan to continue to leverage my expertise in international tax and related subjects to continue examining questions that are important to academics, policymakers, and practitioners.

Before joining TCU, I received my PhD from the University of Iowa. I graduated with a B.A. from Lakeland University in Wisconsin. I worked professionally as a CPA for 5 years at CliftonLarsonAllen LLP (Previously Schenck SC) where I specialized in international and partnership taxation. I have also offered my opinion for many interviews and blog posts, a list of which you can find on Media Mentions.

Outside of academia, I enjoy being outdoors, whether it is working in my garden, hiking through the Northwoods of Wisconsin, or out kayaking on a lake. I am also an avid podcast fan, often listening to the odd mix of horror short stories and political podcasts. I also try to give back to the community. I have volunteered with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and currently work as a volunteer for Savvy Ladies to help provide financial advice and education for women.
